“Facebook comment bot” covers two very different tools. One posts comments on other people’s posts to get attention. The other answers the comments people leave on your own Page’s posts, and can send each of them a private Messenger message. VivaDialog does only the second, through Meta’s official login and APIs. This article explains the difference so you can tell which kind a tool is selling you, then walks through what a comment bot on your own Page can do and how to set one up. It also covers the other phrases people use for the same thing, such as “facebook auto comment”, “auto comment bot fb”, and “facebook commenting bot”.
Kind 1: bots that comment on other people’s posts
An auto comment bot leaves comments on posts by Pages and profiles you do not run, often from a list of stock phrases, hoping the owner or their audience notices you. VivaDialog does not do this and has no feature for it.
We stay away from it for two reasons:
- It looks like spam. Meta’s Spam Community Standard covers activity done manually or automatically at very high frequencies, repetitive content, and buying or trading engagement. We know of no Meta page that names comment bots specifically, and Meta does not publish the activity levels that lead to a restriction.
- Some of these tools log in as you. A tool that asks for your Facebook password can do anything on your account, not only comment. Check how a tool connects before you try it. Is Instagram comment automation safe? gives a quick test for telling official-API tools from password-login tools, and the same test applies to Facebook.
Kind 2: replying to comments on your own Page
The other meaning is a bot that watches the comments on your Page’s posts and answers them. Someone writes “price?”, and a reply appears under the comment. Someone writes “INFO”, and one private message arrives in their Messenger inbox. This is a normal use of Meta’s APIs, which let a connected tool read comments on your Page, reply publicly, and send a private reply.
In VivaDialog, an automation does it:
- Open Automations and click New rule on the Rules tab. Pick a template such as Price asked in a comment, answered by DM or Comment INFO, get the details by DM, and click Use this.
- Under What starts this automation?, choose New comment.
- Under Which messages?, choose Messages with certain words and enter Words to look for, such as
price, how much, cost. Or choose Every message. - Under On which channels?, choose Only some channels and tick your Facebook Page. Leave All connected channels if the same words should work on Instagram too.
- Under How should it reply?, choose Same text every time or Answer with AI. With AI, you write the facts it may use, and it answers only from those.
- Optionally, tick Send a private DM to the person who commented, which puts the details in their Messenger inbox.
- Use Test it first, then Save rule.
You need to be an admin of the Page on Facebook and an owner or admin of the VivaDialog workspace to connect it. Connect your Facebook Page has the steps. You can limit an automation to chosen posts under Which posts?, which suits a giveaway or a launch, and use Skip messages that contain to leave complaints to a person.
What else a comment bot can do on a Page
- Hide spam. An automation can hide a comment that matches your words, such as a link to a scam, so it disappears from public view under your post. Add a
spamtag first and read what it caught for a few days before you switch hiding on. Hide spam comments automatically walks through it. - Tag and assign. A comment that asks for a quote can be tagged and assigned to a team member in the same automation.
- Move the person along. An automation can move a contact to Interested when they ask a price. It never moves anyone back.
The limits that apply to every reply
- One public reply per comment. If several automations match, only the one with the highest priority replies.
- Nothing older than 24 hours gets an automatic reply.
- Your own Page never triggers an automation, so its replies are left alone.
- One private DM per comment, within 7 days of the comment, and only to the person who wrote it. Meta sets that limit, and the conversation continues only after they answer. How to send an automatic DM when someone comments on a Facebook Page covers it in full.
- A warning on the Automations page when an account connected less than 7 days ago sends more than 25 automatic replies and DMs in 24 hours. It warns and does not block, and the number is our own cautious choice, not a Meta limit.
How automations work lists the rest.
Doing it by hand from the inbox
You do not need an automation for every comment. In the inbox, Facebook Page comments sit in the same list as DMs, marked Comment. Open one and choose Reply for a public reply, Reply by DM for one private message, or Resolve or Ignore to clear it. The filter Waiting for reply shows comments that have no public reply yet and are not hidden, resolved, or ignored. How to sort and triage Facebook Page comments turns that into a daily routine. One inbox for Instagram, Facebook, and Threads covers every control, and how to sort and triage Facebook Page comments turns the filters into a routine.
Replies you write by hand never count toward your plan’s conversation quota. Only what automations and AI send is counted.
What VivaDialog does not do on Facebook
- It does not comment on other Pages’ or people’s posts.
- It does not log in with your Facebook password. You connect through Meta’s own login and can remove access any time in Facebook’s settings under Apps and websites.
- It does not send a DM to someone who has not commented or written to you.
A quick way to tell them apart
| Auto comment bot | Reply automation | |
|---|---|---|
| Whose posts | Other Pages and people | Your own Page |
| Who gets the comment | Strangers | People who commented on you |
| Typical connection | Some use a password login | Meta’s official login and API |
| In VivaDialog | Not available | Yes |
Frequently asked questions
Does VivaDialog comment on other people’s posts?
No. It replies to comments on your own Facebook Page, Instagram posts, and Threads posts. It does not post on other accounts.
Is a Facebook comment bot against the rules?
It depends on the kind. We know of no Meta page that names comment bots, but Meta’s Spam Community Standard covers repetitive, high-frequency and bought engagement, and a tool that asks for your password sits outside the official API. Replying to comments on your own Page through Meta’s API is what those APIs are for.
Can I auto reply to comments on Facebook with a private message?
Yes. Tick Send a private DM to the person who commented. Meta allows one private reply per comment, within 7 days, and you can send more only after the person answers.
Can an automatic reply get my Page restricted?
No tool can promise it will not, because Meta decides. Keeping replies relevant, answering only people who asked, and staying within the limits above lowers the risk.
Does it work on Instagram and Threads as well?
Yes. The same automation works on Instagram and Threads. On Threads there are no DMs, so the private DM step is skipped there. The Instagram comment bot article covers the Instagram side, and the Instagram comment automation guide walks through the whole setup.
VivaDialog is in early access right now, and participants get the Growth plan free for 30 days. The pricing page has the details.
