Instagram comment bot: two kinds, and which one is safe to use

4 min read

“Instagram comment bot” means two different things, and they carry very different risk. One kind posts comments on other accounts’ posts to get attention, which is an engagement bot. The other kind replies automatically to comments people leave on your own posts. VivaDialog does only the second, and it does it through Meta’s official API. This article explains the difference so you can tell which one a tool is selling you. It also covers the terms people search for, such as “bot commenter”, “ig auto comment”, and “instagram auto comment”.

Kind 1: bots that comment on other people’s posts

An engagement bot leaves comments on posts by accounts you do not own, often on a schedule and often with the same stock phrases, hoping those accounts or their followers notice you. VivaDialog does not do this and has no feature for it.

We are cautious about it for two reasons:

  • It looks like spam. Instagram says it has limits in place to stop direct messages that people may not want to get, and the same logic covers repeated comments nobody asked for. We know of no Meta page that names comment bots specifically, and Meta does not publish the activity levels that lead to a restriction.
  • Some of these tools log in with your password. Instagram’s Help Center warns about apps that offer likes or follows and says they go against its Community Standards. A tool that logs in as you can do anything on your account.

If a tool promises to comment for you on other accounts, check how it connects before you try it. Is Instagram comment automation safe? gives a quick test for telling official-API tools from password-login tools.

Kind 2: auto replies to comments on your own posts

The other meaning is a bot that answers comments on your posts: someone writes “price?”, and a reply appears under their comment. This is what VivaDialog automates, through Meta’s official login and APIs.

An automation in VivaDialog works like this:

  1. Under What starts this automation?, choose New comment.
  2. Under Which messages?, choose Messages with certain words and enter Words to look for, such as price, how much, cost. Or choose Every message.
  3. Under How should it reply?, choose Same text every time or Answer with AI. With AI, you write the facts it may use, and it answers only from those.
  4. Optionally, turn on Send a private DM to the person who commented, which puts the details in their DMs.
  5. Use Test it first, then turn the automation on.

You can limit an automation to chosen posts under Which posts?, and use Skip messages that contain to leave complaints to a person. It works on Instagram, Facebook Pages, and Threads. On Threads there are no DMs, so the DM step is skipped there.

The limits that apply to every reply

  • One public reply per comment. If several automations match, only the one with the highest priority replies.
  • Nothing older than 24 hours gets an automatic reply.
  • Your own account never triggers an automation.
  • One private DM per comment, within 7 days of the comment, and only to the person who wrote it. Meta sets that limit.
  • A warning on the Automations page when an account connected less than 7 days ago sends more than 25 automatic replies and DMs in 24 hours. It warns and does not block, and the number is our own cautious choice, not a Meta limit.

How automations work has the full list, and the Instagram comment automation guide walks through the whole setup.

Frequently asked questions

Does VivaDialog comment on other people’s posts?

No. It replies to comments on your own Instagram posts, Facebook Page posts, and Threads posts. It does not post on other accounts.

Is an Instagram comment bot against the rules?

It depends on the kind. We know of no Meta page that names comment bots, but Instagram warns about apps that offer likes or follows, and a tool that asks for your password is outside the official API. Replying to comments on your own posts through Meta’s API is what Meta’s APIs are for.

What does “ig auto comment” mean?

Search results mix both kinds. If you want replies to your own comments, use an automation with New comment. If you want comments on other people’s posts, VivaDialog does not offer that.

Can an automatic reply get my account restricted?

No tool can promise it will not, because Meta decides. Following the limits above and keeping replies relevant lowers the risk.
