Events in your own Stripe account, such as a paid checkout or a failed invoice, can start an automation in VivaDialog. This is separate from how you pay for VivaDialog. Stripe automations come with paid plans, from Silver.
VivaDialog only receives events from Stripe. It never calls Stripe or changes anything there, and it does not ask for a Stripe API key.
Connect Stripe
Owners and admins open Settings and find the Stripe card.
- Click Get the webhook URL and copy it.
- In Stripe, open Developers, then Webhooks, and add an endpoint with that URL. Select the events listed on the card.
- Copy the endpoint’s signing secret from Stripe. It starts with
whsec_. Paste it into the card and click Save.
The secret is stored encrypted, and the card only ever shows its last 4 characters. The card also shows the last event that came from Stripe and the last request it refused, with the reason.
Events from Stripe’s test mode are ignored unless you tick Also act on test-mode events. Turn it on while you try things with test payments, and off again when you are done.
Events you can use
Checkout paid, Delayed checkout payment succeeded, Delayed checkout payment failed, Checkout abandoned (expired), Payment failed, Invoice paid, Invoice payment failed, Subscription started, Subscription ended, Trial ends in 3 days, and Payment refunded.
Who the automation runs for
VivaDialog matches the email in Stripe to someone who wrote to you by email, and only once the payment went through. Subscription and refund events use the email from that customer’s last successful payment in the past 90 days.
Failed and expired payments are never linked to a contact, because anyone can type an email address at checkout. Automations on those events do not run.
Set up the automation
In a new automation, under What starts this automation, choose A Stripe event and pick the event. The automation can reply, add a tag, assign the conversation, move the contact to a stage, or write a row to Google Sheets. It runs once per event, right away.
A reply goes into that customer’s latest email conversation, under the usual channel rules. Events older than 24 hours are skipped. See connect an email inbox and how automations work.
Disconnect
Click Disconnect. The webhook URL stops working right away and Stripe automations stop running. Remove the endpoint in Stripe as well.
If the plan ends or the workspace turns read-only, events from Stripe still arrive but are not acted on.
